Soumitra Dutta

Soumitra is Peter Moores Dean and Professor of Management, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford.

Before joining the School in 2022, he was Professor of Management and the former founding Dean of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University, New York. 

Soumitra is the Chair of the Board of the Global Business School and is on the advisory boards of several business schools including HEC Montréal (Canada), Centrum Catholica (Peru), University of Los Andes (Colombia), and ESADE (Spain).

Leadership Team

School Board

The School Board is a working board, overseeing the work of the school and approving major strategic decisions. It is led by Paul Polman. 

Paul is a business leader, campaigner, co-author of 'Net Positive: how courageous companies thrive by giving more than they take', a Financial Times Business Book of the Year. 

He works to accelerate action by business to tackle climate change and inequality. As CEO of Unilever (2009-2019), he demonstrated that business can profit through purpose, delivering shareholder returns of 290% while the company consistently ranked 1st in the world for sustainability. Today he works across a range of organisations to deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which he helped develop.

Global Leadership Council

The Global Leadership Council has broader representation and serves as a sounding board for the School. It is led by Sam Laidlaw.

Sam is an international business leader in the energy sector, having had responsibility for businesses in four continents. He is currently the Executive Chairman of Neptune Energy Group Holdings Limited. He is also Non-Executive Chairman at the National Centre for Universities and Business, Senior Independent Director at Rio Tinto plc and a Member of the Advisory Board at Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment.

He was formerly a Non-Executive Director of HSBC Holdings plc and Chairman of its Remuneration and Nomination Committees. He was also formerly Chief Executive Officer of Centrica plc and was the lead Non-Executive Board member of the UK Department for Transport until 31 December 2014.
