Profile

Gareth is a prominent author and keynoter speaker on the implications of the new science of chaos and complexity for leadership and change, and on the new forms of learning, knowledge and scientific development required in a rapidly changing world.

His consulting and research have been at the forefront of many contemporary management trends: prototyping the requirements of learning organisations; designing and managing decentralised networks; creating flexible team-based enterprise; and using theories of paradox and self-organisation to find new methods of leading and managing strategic change.

Gareth is the author of seven books on organisation and management, including Images of Organization, Riding the Waves of Change, Imaginization, Sociological Paradigms and Organizational Analysis and Beyond Method. Images of Organization is used as a core text at hundreds of universities worldwide. He is also internationally recognised for his contributions to social theory and research.

Gareth is an elected life fellow of the International Academy of Management for his contributions to the science and art of management and a recipient of an Academy of Management Trailblazer Award for his work on organisation and management theory.

He has an honorary doctorate from Syddansk Universitet (Denmark), and was Distinguished Research Professor at York University, Toronto. Gareth has a BSc from the London School of Economics, an MA from the University of Texas at Austin, and a PhD from Lancaster University.
