Tzveta Tchorbadjieva

Tzveta Tchorbadjieva is a senior mining executive with over 20 years of experience ranging from executing multi-billion dollar transactions (divestment of BHP’s US$11 billion shale gas business in the US to BP) to providing strategic input to company Boards and early stage ventures. Currently, she is the Executive Head - Strategy, Business Development and Finance for Base Metals at Anglo American, where she leads the effort on growing the group’s exposure to metals required for a greener, more sustainable world, such as Copper and Nickel.

Tzveta is passionate about sustainable mining, innovation and the disruption of established business models. In particular, she believes that sustainability must be a key driver in measuring business performance. Therefore, natural resources companies should place innovation at the centre of the way they do business, like early stage ventures do, from extraction to distribution, in order to assist the world in transitioning towards clean energy and electrification of transport. Moreover, it is the responsibility of large corporates to create a 'safe' space for entrepreneurs to test their solutions and support them in growing their business. This was evident in Tzveta’s last experience on the Board of Metalysis, an early-stage private material solutions company, focusing on disrupting the space of titanium production and manufacturing of metal powders for 3D printing.

Finally, Tzveta is an ardent advocate of women empowerment and specifically the growing visibility of women executives at every level within the mining industry. In her various roles she has been actively involved in diversity efforts and leadership development and she took part in the Women’s Leaders’ Programme at INSEAD.

Prior to joining Anglo American, Tzveta spent 9 years with BHP with her last role being Global Head of Mergers and Acquisitions. Before that she spent 7 years in the investment banking advisory teams of Deutsche Bank and J.P. Morgan focusing on the natural resources sector. She started her career at BNP Paribas in corporate banking.

Tzveta earned her MBA at Ross School of Business (Michigan, USA). She also holds a Bachelor degree and a Master in International Business from the University of National and World Economy (Sofia, Bulgaria). Tzveta is also a CFA charter holder.
