An experienced programme director, teacher and researcher, Andrew's areas of expertise include innovation management and leadership development.

Andrew is a Senior Fellow in Management Practice, and was previously the Associate Dean of External Relations (2020-2021) and Associate Dean for Executive Education and Corporate Relations (2010-2020) at Saïd Business School. In his previous roles,  Andrew was responsible for forging connections between the research, resources and expertise of the School, and of the wider university, with senior leaders in companies and organisations throughout the world. He was responsible for leading the development and delivery of custom, open and accredited executive programmes which serve as the primary platform for the School’s communication with those facing the demands of leadership in the 21st century. The School rose to 7th in the world, and 1st in the UK, in the 2012 Financial Times combined rankings for Executive Education demonstrating the impact that the School makes in supporting senior leaders through its Executive Education provision.

Andrew is an experienced programme director, teacher and researcher. He has directed and taught on a wide range of executive development programmes for organisations such as BAE Systems, Lloyd’s Market Association, the Government of Abu Dhabi, Avon Cosmetics, State Farm and IBM. He also regularly contributes to the School’s open and accredited programmes focusing on the areas of leadership development, change management and innovation management.

Andrew acts as a consultant to a number of international organisations, and has co-authored a review of how information technology will create intelligent infrastructure systems over the next few decades for the British Government's Department of Trade and Industry. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce and is a Scholar with the Advanced Institute of Management Research.

Andrew joined Saïd Business School as Fellow in Strategic Management in 2006. Prior to this he worked at the Cranfield School of Management from 2001, latterly as a Senior Research Fellow within the Centre for Logistics in Supply Chain Management. He was a Research Engineer for the University of Warwick from 1997 to 2001. Andrew also obtained his doctorate from the University of Warwick in addition to a masters in science (with distinction).

Alongside his current role at the School, Andrew is a Fellow of Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford.

Andrew is responsible for commissioning new research to support leaders to navigate their organisations through the challenges of the 21st century.

In addition to new research, the central challenge for executive education is to connect clients’ leadership challenges with existing knowledge contained in the School and the University and he is engaged in leading efforts to making the appropriate research from across the University available and relevant to client organisations and their leaders.

Andrew’s previous research interests have been focused around inter-organisational information systems and technologies and how companies can successfully manage innovation.

Innovation management

As researcher Andrew’s background is in innovation management – a topic of increasing importance in a competitive and fast-changing world. The successful management of disruptive technologies and discontinuities have been at the heart of his work, these are key factors in today’s highly fluid organisational environment.


Andrew has actively engaged with the worlds of policy, research and practice throughout his career.

Andrew has acted as a consultant to a number of organisations, including as external advisor for the Office of Fair Trading and the Department of Trade and Industry (now the Department of Business Innovation and Skills) where he co-authored a review of how information technology can create intelligent infrastructure systems, named Intelligent Information Futures.

Andrew’s work has been published in the Financial Times, he is a contributor to the European Journal of Information Systems and the Future of Business Schools. Andrew is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce and is a Scholar with the Advanced Institute of Management Research (AIM), a British government initiative that aims to exemplify how collaborative management research and development can contribute to academic, business public service and policy audiences. For AIM, Andrew has co-authored a number of papers focusing on the role of the business school in the wider social and economic context.

Andrew’s work has regularly been published at industry and academic conferences and he has spoken widely at influential international events.


Andrew is an expert in creating leadership and strategy development programmes which result in transformation.

He has lead a wide range of such executive development programmes for organisations including BAE Systems, Lloyd’s Market Association, State Farm Insurance and the Government of Abu Dhabi.

Speaking of the flagship civil services leadership development programme for the government of Abu Dhabi White reports that, “We were delighted to be asked to provide this intensive development programme for the Abu Dhabi civil service in support of the government’s change initiative. The Policy Agenda is a challenging and important undertaking for Abu Dhabi and required a step change in the work of government departments and the people within them. We worked with the high potential leaders within the civil service to identify exactly what was required to allow each of them to meet the objectives of that agenda.”

Andrew also teaches classes on change management, innovation management and leadership development on the Executive MBA, The Oxford Advanced Management and Leadership Programme and the Oxford Management Acceleration Programme. He also contributes to programmes across the Online executive education portfolio. His teaching style is participative and evidence based, focused upon bringing theory and empirical evidence to executives and managers.
