Who’s right for the programme 学员结构

Leading and Transforming Family Businesses—China emphasizes the challenges faced by family-run businesses with Chinese origins, whether they are operating in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, or overseas. The curriculum is tailored to address the needs of established family-run businesses from any industry that are reaching milestones in their growth and seek new strategies for creating sustainable success.

Participants should be senior executives involved in strategic decision-making and organisational design for their companies. Your family business may send an individual senior executive or a team of two or more executives. When two or more executives attend, they can work together in developing and implementing an action plan. Their shared learning will facilitate rapid and effective implementation of frameworks and approaches.

Whether you attend as an individual or a team, you will have the opportunity to broaden your professional network through close interaction with faculty and an elite group of peers from diverse industries throughout Greater China.

When managing a business, it is easy to get caught up in travia matters, but overlook the big strategic picture. This programme enables us to travel through space and time.It covers European families from the 17th and 18th centuries, and prosperous American families in the 20th century, as well as Chinese family businesses in transition between the 1st and 2nd generations. My takeaway here is that everything needs a good planning. Whether it is the succession of family, wealth or business, they all require a great deal of efforts and time to plan in advance.

Just arriving at Oxford is a very different experience. Learning from some of the best family businesses, you really feel: “Wow, I can actually come face to face with some of the best known names and companies out there." It’s never too early to start planning, and to meet the right people who also think similarly like you. I felt it’s almost like finding a new organisation, a new family, and a new group of community.

The programme makes us think about the future of our own business and children, and realise the importance of spiritual fulfillment rather than material success. Seeing the 1st and 2nd generations from other different sectors working and studying so hard is also a huge inspiration and encouragment for us in the future

This course has proven to be very inspiring for me.It identifies the new drivers of growth and future directions for the next decade, which I can implement and execute immediately upon my return.

In the Oxford Module, many cases involve global strategy for family businesses, which provide live examples of practical solutions. The cases are down to earth, covering many well known companies, and we could discuss freely in the classroom.Through this programme, I also get to experience different teaching styles of Peking, Oxford, and Harvard University.

The programme shows us how modern corporations can draw lessons from historical events, and helps us to simplify complicated problems. After studying many family firms from all over the world, regardless of their cultural and social backgrounds, we can see a lot of similarities among them. We can truly learn enormously from the best universities in the three countries. In addition to all the knowledge about succession and management of family firms, the best part of the three modules is a new group of close friends.
