What the Careers Service will do for you

The Careers team will work with you on a one-to-one basis from initial career exploration through the job search and beyond. They will give you practical help and advice on:

  • Developing and customising your CV and cover letter
  • Organising recruitment and networking events
  • Exploring and developing your leadership competencies
  • Improving your networking techniques and skills
  • Building relationships with key employers
  • Creating a customised career plan
  • Preparing you for upcoming interviews
  • Offering negotiation advice and support

The team have a dedicated slot on Wednesday afternoons for careers-related sessions for all students. These may also include employer presentations or panels – however, they are generally hosted in the evenings. Typical sessions include competency / behaviour interview prep, financial markets overview, intros to PE and commercial banking, and trading floor interviews.

Raising the profile of the MFE

The Careers Centre provides many opportunities aimed at maximising student contact with potential employers:

  • Informal sector-based panel discussions with representatives from leading financial institutions
  • Advanced financial modelling training in collaboration with the finance faculty, and corporate competitions to build practical skills
  • Visits by employers and recruiters to meet students and to make presentations about their organisations
  • Events with alumni and other networks, aimed at facilitating sector-based contact and knowledge sharing
