Oxford MBA

As an Oxford student, you will belong to one of the University’s 38 autonomous colleges, each a self-governing academic community of students and faculty with its own distinctive history and identity. You will choose a college during your application process.

When it comes to deciding which college to apply for, there are a few things you may want to consider.

What is a college?

The collegiate system allows business school students to connect with students from other disciplines. Your college will provide you with the chance to establish a new circle of friends, to access a range of varied social and sporting activities and to participate in a lively intellectual community.

Am I guaranteed accommodation?

You can either rent privately or apply for accommodation through your College with some offering accommodation to individuals, couples and/or families. This may within the college grounds or located around Oxford (see each college entry for specific details). Remember that not all colleges offer accommodation to Saïd Business School students and where it is provided it is usually allocated on a first come first served basis.

How do I choose a college?

Here are a series of factors you may want to consider:

  • Type of college; Whether it is specifically for graduates, or if it also accepts undergraduate students. Some graduate only colleges are preferred by students who are returning to study after a period of substantial work experience, perhaps bringing a family with them.  Other students, prefer to mix with both the graduate and undergraduate community.
  • Location within Oxford: the town is small and most colleges are no more than about a 15-minutes walk from the city centre and Saïd Business School. View the College location map.
  • Art, music, drama and sport: Some colleges have strong dramatic traditions whereas others are very strong in sports such as rowing. Depending on what your interests are you may find some colleges more suitable than others.
