Reflections on my journey through the Oxford Executive Strategy Programme

As a leader in data analytics, AI, and technology I have had the privilege of shaping and driving strategies for some of the world’s leading companies across diverse sectors, including tech, finance, pharmaceuticals, retail, healthcare, and government.

Throughout my career, whether in consulting or in an in-house capacity, I’ve embraced such experiences to continuously refine skills such as strategic thinking and uncovering new ways to provide value.

Each challenge I have faced has been an opportunity to learn, adapt, and push boundaries, fuelling my passion for driving success and inspiring others.

What made me choose this programme?

Seeking to build on my experience, I chose the Oxford Executive Strategy Programme for its dynamic blend of timeless principles and modern strategies, the programme was a great match for my ambition to lead with clarity and purpose. Passionate about driving meaningful change and cultivating a culture of innovation, I saw studying the programme as an opportunity to strengthen my leadership and strategy skills to provide impactful solutions in an ever-changing world.

What was it like to study the Oxford Executive Strategy Programme?

The Oxford Executive Strategy Programme was a fantastic journey, blending academic rigour with the flexibility of remote learning. One of the standout benefits of this format is the ability to learn anytime, anywhere as long as you have an internet connection.

I fondly recall studying modules while waiting for the tube in London or even mid-flight on my way to a friend’s wedding in Italy. I am continually amazed by the technological advancements humanity has made that make this possible, and I’m deeply grateful for the innovations that enable such seamless learning experiences. What a great time to be alive.

Another highlight was connecting with a global cohort of professionals. From our initial virtual meeting to interactive forums, the programme fostered meaningful engagement and collaboration, enriching the learning experience.

The course itself is thoughtfully structured, with new modules released weekly. The content of the modules is in a variety of formats, including text, audio, and video. It’s engaging, yet demanding—expect a lot of reading and thought-provoking assignments that will test your understanding. I fondly remember some late nights, devoted to the material, weaving work and personal life into a delicate dance by day. My advice for prospective students is simple: start early, plan your schedule carefully and get moving.

The programme also offers access to a wonderful line up of experts. Learning from esteemed leaders such as Professor Richard Whittington and Dr. Trudi Lang, with guidance from Murray Cook, Lesley Katts, and Lydia Govendar, was truly inspiring. We also benefited from insights shared by prominent figures in strategy, including Rafael Ramirez, Pinar Ozcan, and Tim Galpin

Reflections on completing the programme

Participating in this programme has been an enriching experience, offering invaluable insights into strategic leadership. Key takeaways include the significance of a purpose-driven organisation, the critical roles of key players and partners in shaping strategy, the power of relationships to drive results, the value of effective communication and a networked approach to strategy.

Beyond the learnings, I’ve built meaningful connections with fellow participants, which I continue to nurture both in person and online.

As a thought leader in my field, I have already integrated these new perspectives into my work and share them with the rest of the world through speaking engagements, international conferences, and guest lectures at universities.

For anyone seeking to enhance their executive strategy skills, I wholeheartedly recommend this programme—it’s an investment in growth that truly delivers.
