As I jumped on the flight from Nairobi to London for graduation, it felt surreal and indeed unreal. I knew I would miss these trips to Oxford to attend the incredible lectures, walk around Oxford’s ancient streets and interact with all my incredible classmates. But at the same time, I was so relieved to be on the other side of deadlines and assignments and to come back to Oxford as a graduate.
I reflected to January 2023 when I nervously entered the lecture hall at Saïd Business School, with this huge imposter syndrome hanging over my head, trying to convince me that possibly it was a mistake and I had not been admitted to the program, and indeed wondering how I got one of the two coveted Director’s Award Scholarship. I nervously listened as everyone introduced themselves, all these global organizations represented, and I was excited for what the year had in store.
Fast forward to this graduation day as I got ready and put on my sub fusc and realized that I had done it! As we went through the day, as I showed my family around Oxford and introduced them to my now forever friends, I could hardly believe that I was now an Oxonian.
The thing with Oxford now, is that I can’t wait to come back and do something more. It feels like a second home to me now.
