Cameron Wood has been selected for the highly prestigious FASPE programme.
Current Saïd Business School, University of Oxford MBA student Cameron Wood has been selected for the Fellowship at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE)
The fellowship is a two-week programme where students and contemporary professionals look at the conduct of business professionals in Nazi-occupied Europe to reflect on business ethics today.
Cameron is one of just thirteen students worldwide chosen for the 2022 business programme
Reflecting on how he feels having been selected, Cameron said:
'It is humbling and affecting to be selected by the Fellowship. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn in such an impactful environment.'
The fellowship’s focus on the role of business in the Nazi state underscores the reality that moral codes governing business professionals can break down, resulting in devastating consequences.
Graduates of the course are better positioned to confront ethical issues in business today.
David Goldman, FASPE’s founder, and chairman, said:
'By educating students about the causes of the Holocaust and the power of their chosen professions, FASPE seeks to instil a sense of professional responsibility for the ethical and moral choices that the fellows will make in their careers and in their professional relationships.'
Cameron’s interest in the area was sparked by his desire to see businesses tackle ethical challenges:
'I believe that both individuals and organisations need to identify, project, and actualise their purpose and values by confronting the ethical challenges in their decisions. FASPE’s study of how businesses and business executives enabled and executed Nazi policies offers a deeply poignant frame to explore that responsibility.'
He continues:
'My time at Saïd Business School has been highlighted by a real focus for MBA students to critically consider the ethical challenges facing businesses and executives. Those conversations have been edifying and challenging and are a major part of why I applied to both Oxford Saïd and FASPE.'
The 2022 fellowship takes place in Germany and Poland during the summer. Learn more about FASPE.
