Two new academics have joined Oxford Saïd with expertise in strategy, expanding our number of faculty members to a record 88.

Michelle Rogan (left photo) joins from Imperial College and is beginning a new research project, investigating how AI affects managers’ decisions regarding the recruitment and promotion of employees. Violetta Splitter (right photo) joins from Zurich University and will be advancing equity and inclusion in organisational strategy-making.

Michelle Rogan has joined as a Professor of Strategy in the SIM (Strategy Innovation & Marketing) group. Before joining the School, she served on the faculties of INSEAD, the University of North Carolina, and most recently, served at Imperial College as the Academic Director of the MSc in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management. She has taught for over 15 years and is the Senior Editor of Organisation Science, a research journal.

She commented: 'In my prior research, I investigated two main questions - how networks affect performance and innovation, and how employee participation in their firm’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programmes affects their careers. In the coming months, one of my aims is to move my research into new areas. For example, I have begun a new project investigating how AI affects managers’ decisions regarding the recruitment and promotion of employees.'

'I look forward to embarking on a new project investigating how AI affects managers’ decisions regarding the recruitment and promotion of employees. I am looking forward to getting to know my colleagues at Oxford Saïd and the University of Oxford. After two months here, I have found the environment warm and collegial - and conducive to reflection and research.’

My research has investigated two main questions – how networks affect performance and innovation, and how employee participation in their firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes affect their careers.

Professor of Strategy

Violetta Splitter joins as an Associate Professor of Strategy in the SIM group and hails from Germany. She joined the School from the University of Zurich and has advised, trained, and collaborated with executives from internationally renowned private and public organisations. She has also worked with Zurich Insurance, AXA, and Roche, and authored articles on this topic in the media, including a joint publication with the CEO of AXA UK & Ireland.

Violetta is passionate about new, ‘open’ forms of strategy making, ethical considerations in strategic management, and practice-theoretical approaches to strategising and organising. In addition, she is also a Fellow and Tutor at St. Peter's College.

She said: 'My research focus is on open forms of strategising and includes questions of increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion in strategy making. Oxford Saïd’s hub for sociologically driven strategy research provides an ideal setting to find answers to these questions. I look forward to advancing equity and inclusion in organisational strategy-making by training current and future leaders and discussing and collaborating with doctoral students.'
