Professor Samer Jarkasy joins Oxford-based energy firm at vanguard of clean fusion power

Associate Fellow, Professor Samer Jarkasy, has joined Tokamak Energy, a pioneering fusion energy company seeking to reduce global reliance on fossil fuels.

Samer will lead the capital markets operations and engagement as the first Chief Capital Markets Officer at the leading-edge deep technology company, which works on commercial fusion energy and high-temperature superconducting magnets. The job will sit alongside his part-time academic contributions, which will be enhanced and enriched by this new role.

Commenting on his appointment, Samer said: 'I am overjoyed to join Tokamak Energy and help this incredibly talented team solve one of humanity's greatest challenges. Tokamak Energy's Managing Director, Warrick Matthews, said: 'Samer has extensive capital markets experience and a proven track record of raising funds. He will lead and strengthen all our fundraising and interactions with capital markets and bring a new dimension to our leadership team as we drive forward our plans to deliver clean, secure, affordable fusion energy in the 2030s.'  

The Oxford-based energy company is the world's only private fusion company with more than ten years of experience designing, building, and operating spherical tokamaks, which are magnetic confinement devices that produce controlled fusion power more efficiently and with a smaller footprint than conventional ones.  

After a hedge fund career, Samer has been lecturing at Oxford Saïd since 2020 in Hedge Funds and Investing in Public Equity (Asset Management) on the MBA, MSc and BSc programmes and has won the University of Oxford Social Science Division's Teaching Excellence Award 2023'.
