Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Academic Director of the Entrepreneurship Centre has been honoured with this year’s Educational Impact Award.

The award from the Strategic Management Society (SMS), recognises excellence in contributing to the teaching mission in strategic management and was been awarded to Pinar for her work on the Inspiring Female Founders series. Its aim is to inspire and equip future generations of entrepreneurs, particularly women, to tackle pressing challenges in the world through innovation. The series has featured Louise Hill, founder of GoHenry, Anne Boden, Founder of Starling Bank and many more inspirational female-led stories of success.

Presented at a ceremony in her hometown of Istanbul, Pinar was able to be joined by her mother Seval Ozcan for the celebration, which made the occasion particularly special for her.

I am thrilled to receive this award in recognition of my development of the "Inspiring Female Founders" case series, which is an initiative embedded within the Entrepreneurship Centre and the Oxford Future of Finance and Technology Initiative, at Saïd Business School, Oxford University. I started this series with the aim to inspire and equip future generations of entrepreneurs, particularly women, to tackle pressing challenges in the world through technological innovation. The cases are written in a way that audiences with different educational levels and backgrounds can all find something to learn and be inspired by.

SMS acknowledged how Pinar has transformed the way we see digital platforms and financial markets and professions. She joins previous winners Ithai Stern (2023) and Pankaj Ghemawat (2021). The recipient of this award is selected by a sub-committee appointed by the SMS Awards & Honours Committee, including leadership of the SMS Teaching Community.

Nominees for this award are judged according to the following criteria: Innovation in the teaching of strategic management (eg new pedagogies, new media for learning and knowledge sharing); Development and dissemination of teaching materials, such as texts, case studies and digital materials; Writing and publishing on pedagogy; Evidence of excellence in teaching at their home institution and other places they have taught (teaching awards, reference letters from administrators or peers, etc.)

My dream is for these free cases to be passed around the world from person to person. I am looking forward to increasing the visibility and impact of the series by taking on distribution partners in the future. I am thankful to the Strategic Management Society for raising the profile of the series and bringing me another big step closer to my dream.

The Strategic Management Society, detailing what set Pinar apart, said: 'The detailed studies and cases that Pinar wrote opened new ways to teach and understand the functioning of these industries in a unique manner. The jury was especially impressed by the coherence across the research, the educational materials, and the professional experience that Pinar put together over the recent years.’

Pinar’s achievement has been recognised on the SMS Website and will have prominence at the SMS Annual Conference. This award comes following the announcement in January that Pinar has been selected to the Central Bank Digital Currency Academic Advisory Group.
