Leaders from Saïd Business School and Sumgayit State University have shared expertise at a specially convened climate school for Azerbaijani executives.
Manos Kapterian, Oxford Saïd's Chief Operating Officer, led a Climate Management School session at Azerbaijan's Sumgayit State University during the COP29 conference, on ‘Integrating Climate Management into Business Strategy’.
As leaders converge at COP29, the Climate Management School represents a practical, action-oriented initiative at this critical juncture for climate response.
Manos said: ‘Our role as business leaders extends beyond policy conversations—we are tasked with equipping our organisations and sectors with the essential tools and strategic insights for meaningful, measurable climate action. We are pleased to contribute to a programme dedicated to empowering corporate leaders to embed climate management deeply into business frameworks.
‘In a world where industry accounts for a significant share of global emissions, rethinking and transforming industrial practices is not only a necessity but a core component of building a sustainable, resilient future.’
Meanwhile, Dr Ana Nacvalovaite, Research Fellow, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Oxford’s Kellogg College, ran a session on: ‘Aligning Purpose with Profit: Sovereign Wealth Funds, Climate Action, and the Just Transition.’ And Oxford Saïd's Professor of Management, Juliane Reinecke was to lead Delivering Sustainable Business: A Global View.
Sumgayit State University established a Sustainable Development Centre in May 2024.
