In this year’s MBA and MFE Employment Reports, Saïd Business School graduates have achieved an impressive range of roles amidst challenging recruitment markets.

Despite difficult conditions, our graduates secured increased multiple hiring in finance and consulting positions at top firms across both programmes, including Bain & Company, BCG, Bank of America, British International Investment, Citibank (APAC), CPP Investment Board, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Company, UBS and the World Bank Group.

Also notable was an uptick in hires in the MENA region, and a diverse selection of new consulting organisations hiring our graduates from both MBA and MFE programmes. In keeping with Oxford Saïd’s long-term commitment to creating impact from within, more students are returning to or pivoting into impact roles in foundations, government, and mainstream employers.

We recognise the difficult economic environment our recent MFEs and MBAs have graduated into, which has led to a highly competitive and uncertain recruitment landscape. I am incredibly proud of what our 2022-23 graduates have achieved.

Director of Career Development

Oxford Saïd Director of Career Development, Joy Bussell, commented on this year’s employment report and said: ‘As a School, we recognise the difficult economic environment our recent MFEs and MBAs have graduated into, which has led to a highly competitive and uncertain recruitment landscape.  I am incredibly proud of what our 2022-23 graduates have achieved by making informed career decisions with the support of our invested Career Development team. We look forward to continuing to work with them as alumni.’

Our 2022-23 MBA graduates attained roles at 127 organisations in 51 global cities through traditional and non-traditional career paths, with 88% achieving successful transitions between sectors, countries, or functions. The employment rate stands at 80%, emphasising the School’s commitment to continue to support students through their early alumni years, a crucial phase of their career development.

This year has seen an average salary increase of 9%, to £91,198, maintaining steady growth from 2020, with notable shifts in the Global Industry and Impact sectors.  The largest proportion of the MBA cohort went into Finance careers (32.3%), followed by Consulting (27.2%), Global Industries (17.4%) and 11.4% into impact and technology careers.  One in 10 students were sponsored, and 10% have started ventures, with a majority in the Technology and Energy sectors in locations spanning Africa, North America, and the UK. Across the cohort there was also a 9% increase in geographic mobility to the Middle East, with strong representation in Asia and North America.

Our 2022-23 MFE students achieved roles in 47 organisations across 14 global countries, an increase over the previous year, with an average salary of £60,578, and a 92% employment rate, six months after graduating.

Despite the tradition of MFE graduates predominantly entering finance roles, there was an increase of 9% of this class, entering roles in consulting. This increase was mirrored with the number of roles secured in North America, and for the first time in six years, 5% of the class relocated to roles in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The Career Development Centre enables students and alumni to take ongoing ownership of their careers by making informed career decisions and building the networks, confidence, and skills to implement those decisions. It is achieved through personalised coaching, which is at the heart of what the team delivers through online resources, in-person workshops, boot camps, industry insights, brokering key employer connections and interactions across key Tech, Consulting, Finance and Global Industries.
