Saïd Business School and the University of Oxford’s Department of Economics are launching a new flagship programme: the Oxford Masters in Applied Financial Economics.

Set to welcome its first class in September 2026, this two-year, part-time programme combines rigorous academic learning with a blended approach of online and in-person learning,. It is aimed at working professionals seeking to deepen expertise in finance and economics.

Expanding on world-leading outcomes

The new programme expands on the extraordinary reputation of the Oxford MSc in Financial Economics (MFE), which is ranked #1 in the world by QS. With 92% employment within six months, MFE graduates consistently secure roles in top firms like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Bain and McKinsey, underscoring the University’s commitment to delivering world-class education.

Designed for working professionals

The new programme benefits working professionals aiming to advance their skills and accelerate their careers. It blends six blocks of structured online learning, featuring both live sessions and self-paced activities alongside four in-person residential periods in Oxford. Through this model, students can gain an Oxford-quality education and its esteemed accreditation from anywhere in the world.

The MSc in Applied Financial Economics embodies the future of graduate education: intellectually challenging, globally connected, and designed to meet the evolving needs of finance professionals. The programme brings Oxford’s academic rigour and industry relevance to a new audience. It’s a natural next step for a portfolio that continues to be recognised globally for excellence in finance education

Professor Jonathan Reynolds

Deputy Dean of Oxford Saïd

A practical curriculum

Building on the same proven foundations of the MFE, students will explore five core areas: Economics, Corporate Finance, Financial Econometrics, Asset Pricing, and Ethics and Finance. They will choose from a selection of applied electives designed to connect theory to practice. The programme culminates in an individual project, enabling students to apply financial tools to solve real-world challenges, including those relevant to their own work.

World-class teaching and delivery

Co-directed by Oxford Saïd's Dr Ken Okamura and Professor Alexander Teytelboym, from Oxford's Department of Economics - two leading thinkers in economics and finance, the programme offers engaging, interactive learning delivered by expert Oxford faculty. This is facilitated through best-in-class technology and powered by Oxford Saïd Online for a seamless digital experience. Students will receive personal tutor support, join a global peer network, and receive access to Oxford’s academic and career development ecosystem.

Professor Teytelboym, Programme Co-Director, said: 'The MSc in Applied Financial Economics represents a new chapter in how we teach financial economics at Oxford. We’ve designed this programme to be rigorous, flexible, and relevant, enabling professionals to explore the theory that shapes markets and apply it directly to their work. It is exciting to bring Oxford’s academic depth to a broader, global audience in a truly modern format.'

Tailored careers support

Backed by Oxford Saïd’s Career Development Centre, students will benefit from a dedicated team providing focused and structured support across finance, consulting, strategy and global industry. This includes:

  • Professional coaching with finance careers experts
  • Engagement with sector-specific industry advisors
  • Tailored career toolkits, resources and workshops
  • In-person career development sessions during Oxford residencies
  • Strategic guidance and development through employer engagement managers

Strengthening global reach and equity

This flexible programme extends Oxford University’s reach, bringing world-class education to professionals unable to pursue full-time, in-person study. It reinforces the University’s commitment to widening access, lifelong learning and global impact, while also creating new opportunities for employers to retain and develop talent.

Applications open this September

Applications for the new programme open in September 2025. With limited places available, early interest is encouraged.
