The NRI is an in-depth analyses of 131 countries’ performance across four dimensions of digital readiness.

The 2022 Network Readiness Index (NRI), which reveals the most network-ready economies in the world, will be launched on November 15, 2022. The NRI is the worldwide guide to most tech enabled countries and reveals which country is at the top of the table and which ones are among fastest movers in the ‘new digital era’.

First launched with the World Economic Forum in 2002, and redesigned in 2019, the NRI is an in-depth analyses of 131 countries’ performance across four dimensions of digital readiness - technology, people, governance, and impact - using 58 different indicators.

This year’s theme, ‘Stepping into the new digital era: How and why digital natives will shape the world’, will explore the challenges and opportunities that the digital era presents for younger generations (or ‘digital natives’), and some of the key dimensions along which they will build the next stages of the world’s digital era. The results also delve into the state of post-COVID era in digital transformation.

The virtual launch event will feature a presentation of key findings of the NRI 2022 and a panel discussion with select speakers, among whom are Soumitra Dutta, Dean of Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, Bill Dutton, Senior Fellow at Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, and Bruno Lanvin, Director, Portulans Institute and distinguished fellow, INSEAD.

Soumitra Dutta, Dean of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and Co-founder and President of Portulans Institute, said:

‘I am pleased to announce a partnership between Portulans Institute and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford for the 2022 edition of the Network Readiness Index (NRI).

First published by the World Economic Forum in 2002 – and celebrating its 20th anniversary - the NRI has become one of the most comprehensive assessments of technology readiness, supporting metrics-based, informed policymaking on digital technologies. We are proud to continue this journey with Oxford Saïd - one of the most innovative, forward-looking business schools globally.’

The NRI 2022 Report also examines some of the factors behind how and why digital natives will shape our world and are helping outline a ‘New Digital Era’.

‘Gen-Z and millennials are digital natives who are pointing to the direction of our digital futures. The shape of business and society tomorrow is being influenced by digital technologies in ways that we are only starting to understand today. The NRI is a valuable tool that provides better metrics and insights into creating a safe, inclusive and trusted digital future for businesses and society,’ said Soumitra Dutta.
