Associate Professor Gill received over 100 endorsements for his teaching
‘One of the most wildly popular professors this year,’ is how MBA website Poets & Quants described Associate Professor Michael Gill in their 2020 Best 40 Under 40 Professors feature. The 37 year old workplace mentoring and mental health expert received over 100 nominations, and was praised for his passion, energy and enthusiasm.
Published annually since 2011, Poets & Quants Best 40 Under 40 Professors asks students at business schools from across the world to nominate their favourite professors, and received more than 2000 nominations this year.
Since joining Oxford Saïd in 2017 Michael has published research into the benefits of mentoring and the significance of suffering within organisations. He is now researching the reasons mental health training programs fail to be implemented in organisations, despite their popularity among senior leaders and employees.
Alongside his teaching and research, Michael has also organised for groups of Oxford MBA candidates to give careers talks in local schools.
Michael commented: 'It is a privilege to be able to work with students at Oxford and to be recognised by them is an honour. I am grateful for a very encouraging school and faculty as well as the many superb people outside of the faculty who keep the MBA classes running. And I am especially grateful to the students who nominated me for this award!'
Peter Tufano, Dean of Saïd Business School, told Poets & Quants that Michael has made ‘mental health an important topic in the classroom for our MBAs. He puts extraordinary amounts of work into his teaching, having developed his classes and original case studies in collaboration with the department of psychology and with clinical psychologists here in Oxford.’
