Welcoming five social entrepreneurs from across the world to Oxford Saïd.

The Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship is proud to welcome the 16th cohort of its Scholarship to the Oxford MBA at Saïd Business School.

Five new Skoll Scholars have received this prestigious scholarship for their passion, dedication and entrepreneurial approaches to tackling world-scale challenges.

The 2019-20 cohort of Skoll Scholars come to Oxford from Australia, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Kenya and the US and are working to tackle issues from economic opportunity to environmental sustainability.

The five will join their fellow MBA classmates this September in Oxford.

Tsechu Dolma - New Skoll Scholar Headshot

A native Tibetan, Tsechu founded the Mountain Resiliency Project to address the poverty and food insecurity prevalent within migrant communities. She is pursuing an MBA to broaden her abilities to advocate for and strengthen displaced communities.

‘It [the Scholarship] aligns with my lifelong values of growing into an effective leader with the grit, vision and communication skills to be a steward to my community and environment. Being a Skoll Scholar at Oxford will help me address inequities, development gaps and improve livelihoods.’

Anjali is a development practitioner who dedicated her career blending business, technology and social impact to responsibly serve the underprivileged population. As a Senior Manager at BRAC, she led a project that brought digital financial services to a million Bangladeshi women.

‘The Skoll Scholarship has not only made my study at Oxford possible, but also offered access to a like-minded community across the world. I believe it’s going to be a transformative experience that will last beyond my time in Oxford, and I can utilise this to change systems that perpetuate inequality.’

Rangan is a social entrepreneur and innovative business thinker from Australia. He is the Founder & CEO of One Education, self-sustaining social enterprise that has generated over $30m in revenue, delivered over 70,000 computers across 600 schools.

‘It is a real honour and privilege to be provided with this opportunity. Oxford and Skoll are global leaders in social enterprise and system change. The Skoll Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for me to reflect on the past decade and a fertile environment to plan for the next decade and beyond!’

Joaquín Víquez

Joaquín Víquez is a passionate leader using social entrepreneurship to promote sustainability. He has spent the past ten years promoting the use of biogas technology in Costa Rica to treat organic waste, creating positive social and environmental impact.

‘I’m very excited to continue the journey of promoting a more sustainable world through social entrepreneurship, and what better way to do it than in a diverse classroom full of thoughtful leaders at Saïd Business school in Oxford, backed up by Skoll.’

Dr Diana Esther Wangari

Dr Diana Esther Wangari is the CEO and Co-Founder of Checkups Medical Centre in Kenya. Diana is posed to scale their rapid outpatient diagnostic and treatment model with the aim to unlock a $1 billion market targeting blue-collar workers in the fast-growing industries of manufacturing, farming, travel and hospitality.

‘There are no new ideas just new strategies. As an entrepreneur it is important to always think of two things; your competitive edge and sustainability. For me, there was no better network than Skoll and there was no better place than Oxford to do this.’

 

About The Skoll Scholarship

The Skoll Scholarship is awarded each year to individuals who pursue entrepreneurial solutions for urgent social and environmental challenges. Not only does it provide full funding to the MBA programme, Skoll Scholars become part of a growing community of change leaders around the world. It also offers exclusive opportunities to meet with world-renowned entrepreneurs, thought leaders and investors.
