Professor Andrew Stephen has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in the King’s Birthday Honours list in Australia
Professor Andrew Stephen, Deputy Dean of Saïd Business School and L’Oréal Professor of Marketing, University of Oxford, and Professorial Fellow, Worcester College, Oxford has today [10 June] been appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours in Australia.
The award is a recognition of Andrew’s 'significant service to business marketing research and development'. The Australian-born professor is a highly prolific academic in the marketing field and his contributions to marketing research and education continue to have an impact on the marketing industry around the world. He is also Director of the Oxford Future of Marketing Initiative, which brings the School’s world-class marketing academics together with senior marketing leaders from some of the world’s largest companies to collaboratively tackle major challenges in the marketing, advertising, media, and communications industries.
Andrew said: ‘I am deeply honoured to receive this award. Becoming a Member of the Order of Australia is a huge privilege and came as a complete surprise. I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on both marketing academia and marketing through my research and education activities at the University of Oxford in the years to come.’
Speaking about the honour, Dean Soumitra Dutta said: ‘Such recognition is a great reward for Andrew’s accomplishments and contribution to scholarship. He will achieve bigger and greater things in the future, I am sure. This is wonderful news.’
Andrew began his career as an undergraduate at the University of Queensland in his hometown of Brisbane, Australia, before moving to Columbia University in the US for postgraduate studies in marketing. He previously held faculty positions at INSEAD and the University of Pittsburgh, before joining the University of Oxford in 2015.
The Member of the Order of Australia is equivalent to an MBE and will be presented to Andrew at a ceremony by the Australian High Commissioner later this year.
