Professor Dutta has paid his first visit to the School since the announcement of his appointment as our new Dean.
During his three-day visit, he met with students, staff, and faculty, at the School's Park End Street and Egrove Park sites, ahead of joining Oxford Saïd on 1 June. He also met stakeholders in the wider University.
The Professor of Management travelled from New York, where he currently teaches at Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business, and of which he is a former dean.
He said: I’m delighted to meet with Oxford Saïd’s faculty, staff, and students. The Saïd community is incredibly special, and I am excited to be joining it. There’s a lot we can achieve by leveraging Oxford’s unique structure and engaging with different colleges to find solutions to the world’s challenges. Oxford Saïd is a world-leading business school, and we must keep improving to keep attracting the best students and faculty.’
Bronwyn Dugtig, Senior Programme Manager for Social Impact Education and Impact Lab Programme Lead at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, was among staff and faculty who met Professor Dutta in specially-arranged sessions. She said she had 'really enjoyed' it.
Bronwyn said: ‘Professor Dutta seemed eager to learn from staff and answered our questions openly, sharing his personal and professional journey as well as his motivations for accepting the position at the School. I also appreciated that he highlighted the importance of retaining top talent and wants to invest in professional development for staff.’
Professor Dutta is no stranger to Oxford, having held the position of Visiting Professor at The Oxford Internet Institute in 2010. His appointment was announced in January.
