Athol Williams, Lecturer in Management at Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, is granted the highest recognition an Oxford college can bestow.
Athol, who has dedicated his life to fighting social and economic injustice, has received an Honorary Fellowship from Hertford College, in addition to playing an important role in the recently launched Oxford Ministry for the Future initiative.
As a business and ethics scholar, anti-corruption advocate and poet Athol Williams established Read to Rise, a charity providing educational opportunities for children. His work explores the interplay between ethics and strategy, corporate finance, and risk management. His research focuses on three key areas: strategic formulation, self-leadership, and corporate moral responsibility.
Joining Saïd Business School last September, Athol is also a Research Associate and alumnus of Hertford College, where he studied for a Master of Philosophy in Political Theory, focusing on the responsibilities economic institutions must promote social justice.
Athol has recently contributed to the Ministry of the Future initiative at Hertford College, set up by Associate Professor of Accounting Anette Mikes and Principal of the Hertford College Tom Fletcher, as a new international body to advocate for the world’s future generations as if their rights were equal to the present population. Composed of a growing network of interdisciplinary scholars, writers and climate-action-oriented managers and policymakers, seeking to invent a sustainable political economy.
