C'est une victoire! Oxford Saïd Business school return from Paris victorious having won MBAT 2022

Oxford topped the medal table at the annual competition MBA event. 

Students at Saïd Business School have won this year’s HEC MBA Tournament (MBAT). The MBAT is an annual tournament where teams from 13 business schools across Europe compete in a mix of sporting activities. 

The competition, which is hosted by HEC Paris, saw over 1,300 MBA students descend on the French capital between the 5th – 7th of May 2022, for a weekend full of events ranging from the physical rock climbing, all the way to the virtual FIFA matches. 

Oxford’s 220 competitors, from over 70 countries, managed to top the medal table, claiming 15 golds, 11 silvers, and 5 bronzes. HEC Paris and London Business School followed in second and third place respectively.

Guadalupe Oliver, who helped lead the dark blues to victory in the women's football said: 

'We've been preparing for this since September, so it feels very rewarding to see our efforts pay off. I'm so proud of our performance. I can't stress enough the level of companionship and sportsmanship exhibited by the Oxford team. We represented the school in a way we feel very proud of."'

Guadalupe was one of three students who helped to organise Oxford’s participation in the games, alongside classmates Taimur Tanoli and Bartek Ogonowski. 

Echoing his classmate’s praise for Oxford’s sportsmanship, silver and bronze medal winner for the cricket and dodgeball, Taimur added: 

'Our team performed well and we acted in a way that we can all be proud of; we were humble in victory and gracious in defeat. Winning is a great feeling, but I feel genuine pride in how our team went about it, winning would mean nothing if we didn’t win the right way.'

Oxford has a history of success at the games, having won in 2019, 2018, and 2017. During the pandemic, the games were held in a virtual format.
