Alumnus Ali Abtahi receives banking's prestigious Lombard Prize

Oxford Executive Diploma in Financial Strategy alumnus Ali Abtahi has received the Worshipful Company of International Bankers (WCIB) Lombard Prize.

The Lombard Prize is awarded for the best dissertation or extended piece of written work, and was received by Ali during an awards ceremony at the Mansion House in London yesterday, which was attended by senior figures within the City of London, including the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs.

The WCIB Lombard Prize was initiated by banker Alan Moore CBE in the early 1990's when he was Chairman of the Lombard Association, to reward an outstanding student at the City University's (now the Bayes Business School) MBA Programme. In 2009, the the prize was extended to include affiliated universities.

 

 

I was awarded the Lombard Prize for my final integrative assignment during my studies at Saïd Business School. I wanted to thank the faculty, staff and my classmates for their kindness, friendship, and support at each step of my Oxford Journey, from my initial resume screening to graduation day. Attending Oxford Saïd and winning the Lombard Prize would not have been possible without their support. Thank you!

Oxford Executive Diploma in Financial Strategy alumnus

Ali was awarded the Lombard Prize for his final integrative assignment during his MBA at Oxford Saïd. With his research focused on the utilisation of public health metrics, specifically Disability-Adjusted Life Years, to enhance investment decision-making and drive strategic growth in health and biomedical investments. This topic is particularly important to Ali because he has a keen interest in early-stage health innovations, and the framework set forth in his assignment addresses the shortcomings in traditional finance valuation methods and offers a path to a more informed methodology for health and biomedical investments. 

The prize consists of:

  • a solid silver Armada dish, inscribed with the Company and winner’s names
  • a cheque for £1500
  • a certificate of merit

In addition, Ali will also have access to a year’s free membership of the WCIB.
