The Intrapreneurship Lab

The Intrapreneurship Lab is designed for students who want to have impact and lead change in an organisation, through developing the skills and knowledge to understand how to innovate within complex structures. The entrepreneurial mindset is essential, not only for those starting their own businesses, but also for understanding how to implement innovative solutions within large structures, such as governments, healthcare systems, financial institutions or consultancy firms.
This programme is ideal if you are intending to join a complex organisation post-study, or alternatively if you have experience of working in a large organisation and found it challenging to implement innovative solutions. It is an an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the challenges that being an intrapreneur presents, how to implement new ideas, work with multiple organisational levels and how to make innovation sustainable. Participants will be able to share their own professional experience as well as learn from others.
The Intrapreneurship Lab is structured across 4 sessions, each highlighting an area for aspiring intrapreneurs to develop skills and knowledge in. In addition to an experienced facilitator, who will share theory and insight, each session will be joined by an intrapreneur from industry who will share first-hand, practical experiences of how they have overcome particular challenges but also how they have achieved success.
The weekly sessions will be led by Anne Headon. Anne’s expertise is in marketing and commercial strategy including brand positioning and route to market. She has held senior roles with large organisations such as L’Oreal, has extensive board member experience and has started up her own ventures.
1. Introduction: How to become an intrapreneur- the early stages - Tuesday 23 April 2019
This session seeks to answer questions such as ‘Are you an intrapreneur?’, ‘Are you fit for the journey?’, ‘What is your purpose?’, and address the internal conflict that innovators often experience when faced with the constraints of a complex structure and their entrepreneurial spirit.

2. Scaling-up within a big organisation - Tuesday 30 April 2019
Activities for this session include visualising the system and understanding how to map this out regardless of the industry. By understanding the system, organisation politics and the reporting structure, aspiring intrapreneurs can use this knowledge to scale-up within the organisation.

3. How to make intrapreneurship sustainable within an organisation - Tuesday 7 May 2019
This session encourages participants to look at intrapreneurship and innovation from the perspective of the manager, board, or C-suite. This includes looking at the challenges of integration as well as how to successfully interact with the board, CEO and senior leadership.
4. A case study of intrapreneurship - Tuesday 21 May 2019
During this session, participants will work on the case study of Accenture Development Partnerships, a corporate social enterprise set up by Gib Bulloch who was a consultant with Accenture at the time. The case demonstrates the challenges faced when trying to implement innovation in an existing organisation. Students will be able to demonstrate the knowledge they have gained throughout the programme and present to their peers.
