Faculty & Research
Strategy and Innovation group
The Strategy and Innovation group at Oxford comprises teaching faculty, research fellows and doctoral students and is engaged in a wide range of teaching and research. We carry out pioneering research on competitive advantage, strategy practice and decision-making, value creation and innovation, the institutional foundations of markets and industries, and science and social entrepreneurship. We are active in both degree programmes and executive education.
Our approach to contemporary issues builds on the multidisciplinary background of the group, including business history, psychology and economic and organizational sociology. We research and teach in ways that make use of a wide range of methodological tools and approaches, quantitative and qualitative. The group is particularly sensitive to how the institutional ‘rules of the game’ shape strategy and in turn how public policy and managerial practice can change those rules.
We publish in leading academic journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science and the Strategic Management Journal. We hold or have recently held leadership positions in major international conferences and professional associations, including the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society. Faculty members hold editorial board memberships in a wide range of journals, we regularly keynote academic and industry conferences, do consultancy, and teach on custom and open courses for senior executives and public service professionals.
We blog and tweet on various topics of expertise (@marcventresca; @ExploreStrategy) and participate in a number of Oxford centres and institutes, most notably the the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship.
Our doctoral students contribute to both research and teaching and we encourage doctoral student applications from those who wish to become research leaders in our academic fields.
