Improving the representation of remarkable women on Wikipedia

In February 2019, 17.78% of English Wikipedia biographies were about women, a mere 283,310 out of a total 1,593,358 pages currently listed.

On further investigation, we discovered that only 8.5% of businesspeople listed are women, and none of our female faculty at Saïd Business School have English Wikipedia profiles, despite several of them being cited elsewhere on Wikipedia for their contribution in their various fields of expertise.

This needs to change

Led by Professor Renée Adams, the School is launching a Wikipedia-edit-a-thon which will focus on building the Wikipedia presence of remarkable women who have made a real impact in their professional sphere. We are mobilising volunteers to edit outdated content on existing Wikipedia pages, and to create new pages for women who they feel should have a presence.

This is an important opportunity to ensure that the women you admire are properly recognised.
