Re-imagining the capital markets: What investors and corporates need to do.
Should a pension fund try to change the world?
Mr Hiro Mizuno, Executive Managing Director and CIO Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).
The GPIF is the $1.6 trillion Japanese Pension Fund and Mr Mizuno has been one of the most active adopters of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations in managing the GPIF portfolio, and one of the leaders in adopting the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate Governance. In December 2019, he announced a controversial new policy: GPIF would no longer support the short selling of stock, which he deemed antithetical to ESG considerations.
He has been the subject of numerous case studies, interviews and an HBR podcast. Prior to joining GPIF in 2015, Mr. Mizuno was a partner in Coller Capital, a London-based private equity firm.
