Summary of the lesson plan

""

Title of the lesson plan: Water, water - Oceans are alive

Big question: How can I manage water?

Age range: 7-10 year olds

Aim: To enable younger students to understand the connection between climate and water

Who are the target students?

The thematic approach provides a focus point to develop language use when considering climate change. As this is aimed at primary aged students, the module is a multi-subject plan covering key areas of science and social understanding.

What does the plan include?

The plan contains a number of classroom-based experiments and scenarios which pupils are encouraged to explore and report back on.

How can you use this in your school?

The plan, being primary focused, has a mix of language development, scientific method and mathematical reasoning built in. This lesson would provide an environment for development of understanding of key climate themes based around the water cycle.

Outcomes from the lessons:

This module will enable the students to:

  • Understand how to use water in an appropriate manner
  • Know what the water cycle is
  • Calculate how much water is used and how it can be saved
  • Be aware of how water pollution occurs

Suggested technology:
