Key areas

Carbon and energy  

Reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions to tackle the climate emergency and reach our 2035 Net Zero Carbon target. Improve the energy efficiency of our estate.  


Encourage rich biodiversity on our sites and beyond, in partnership with local organisations.  


Increase recycling rates and embed the circular economy throughout our operations.  


Improve water efficiency and proactively protect local water systems.  


Promote sustainable modes of transport for our students, staff and guests.  


Source ethical, sustainable and local products. Generate a positive environmental impact through our catering provision.  


Engage our supply chain and embed responsible purchasing choices in all school decisions.   

Environmental management 

Our Egrove Park site has a certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, which will soon be expanded to cover the entire estate.

Our work is aligned with the University of Oxford’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

Continuous improvement

There’s always much more work to be done to improve our environmental sustainability performance. Our sustainability volunteer group meets regularly to plan and launch new projects. We encourage all our staff and students to join by contacting GreenImpact@sbs.ox.ac.uk
