Omar is a Visiting Post-doctoral Researcher at Saïd Business School. His areas of expertise are banking and financial markets. 

Omar is an author of an Arabic textbook on electronic banking and holds a PhD in Banking from The Arab Academy of Banking and Financial Sciences, Cooperative Program with Damascus University, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Damascus University.

His doctoral thesis topic was: 'Asset/Liability Management (ALM) at Jordanian's Traditional and Islamic Banks: An Empirical Analytical Comparative Study.'

Omar is particularly interested in Islamic banks and electronic banking, mainly concentrating on the factors affecting the profitability of banks, the impact of capital structure on bank profitability, and assessing risk and return tradeoffs.
