John is Director of Improvement and Culture at Oxford University Hospitals, a leading teaching and research hospital.
His role is focused on equipping the workforce to improve quality and the way care is delivered, including support processes and management practices. This encompasses leadership and organisational development, building improvement skills, strengthening frontline teams and delegating greater responsibility and decision-making to them.
Prior to joining the NHS, John led McKinsey's work with NHS hospitals in the UK, and worked in the sector for over ten years. He is passionate about supporting people to bring about improvements in quality and productivity, as well as exploring how teams function and how organisations are led and run. John is increasingly of the view that the core assumptions we hold (and are often taught) about how organisations are run and what constitutes 'efficiency' need to be challenged.
John is an associate fellow at Saïd Business School and Green Templeton College, Oxford. He is also a trustee at the National Churches Trust.
John has a Master's degree in Engineering, Economics and Management from the University of Oxford.
