Head of IT Application Development and Projects

Grade 9: £47,263 - £54,765 with a discretionary range to £59,828 p.a.


We are looking for an experienced, skilled and highly motivated Head of IT Application Development and Projects to oversee the coordination and administration of all aspects of the IT Development Agenda including budgeting, planning, prioritisation, organising, resourcing, leading, controlling and reporting programme activities, risks and dependencies.

The scope of the Department covers a wide range of strategic and support functions, including IT governance and direction-setting, management and delivery of the institution’s IT development portfolio, as well as a spectrum of IT related services including Audio Visual, Web Development, Programme/Project Management, front line IT Help Desk and Infrastructure Support and Maintenance. 

The Department enables all those undertaking study at the School – from senior executives to postgraduate students, faculty and staff, to exploit the maximum value from digital information and technology in order to deliver the School’s mission to be a world class business school community, embedded in a world class university, tackling world scale problems.

As a leading and influential member of the IT Senior Management Team, you will support the CIO in leading the prioritisation, management, development and delivery of the School’s annual IT Development agenda, to ensure successful implementation to deliver and realise business benefit. This will involve maintaining a budgeted, flexible and viable annual programme of projects (c15-30 projects of c£1m-£1.5m) which aligns to the strategic goals, resources and budgets of the School and meets the School’s future needs.  

To be considered at shortlisting, you will have proven experience in delivering a successful programme of development activities within a complex, multi stakeholder organisation, with special focus on the ability to engage, develop and collaborate with outsourced partners, team members and the wider business, building trust and confidence, especially at senior levels. You should be able to demonstrate significant and positive business outcomes from projects delivered in previous roles and have demonstrable budget, portfolio and stakeholder management skills, alongside experience of working with PRINCE2, Agile and other major project management methodologies.
