Contego, a fraud-solution company founded by an Oxford Executive MBA alumnus, has been selected as one of the 15 start-ups to participate in this year’s Accenture’s Fintech Innovation Lab: London. The 12-week mentoring programme helps fintech entrepreneurs to accelerate their development, and provide leading banking institution with an insight into the future technologies they will need to stay ahead.
CEO Adrian Black, who founded Contego in 2010, and was part of the 2004/5 Oxford EMBA course, said: ‘We are delighted to be part of the Accenture Fintech programme. I am looking forward to experiencing the collaborative environment at Level39, a Canary Wharf-based technology accelerator, working with potential future customers to validate and refine the Contego proposition, gain valuable insights into the banking sector and develop strong relationships with industry executives.’
Contego, along with the 14 other selected start-ups, will be partnered with senior-level bank executives who will assist with the fine-tuning and development of their technologies and business strategies. Contego was selected due to its offering of real-time know your customer (KYC), know your business (KYB) and risk checks to the increasingly compliance-driven financial services sector. The company, an evolution of Adrian’s Oxford EMBA entrepreneurial project, aggregates a wide array of data sources into a web-based service which provides real-time identity, fraud and compliance checks on companies and people.
‘My Oxford EMBA taught me that anything was possible if I pushed myself; it inspired the relentless pursuit of opportunity that drives successful entrepreneurship,’ said Adrian. ‘It made me a self-reliant sole founder, and equipped me with the skills, confidence and clarity of thought that is necessary to pitch a concept to investors, employees and customers. Before the EMBA, I had never written a business plan, but now I have a great team and a proven compliance solution used by corporate clients that we are now offering to banks in the Accenture Fintech Innovation Lab as part of our wider growth.’
