Overview

Professor Roy Westbrook is Deputy Dean of the Said Business School, and was formerly Dean of Development and External Relations, and MBA Director. He is also a Professor of Operations Management in the school, and a Tutorial Fellow and Vice-Principal of St Hugh’s College, Oxford. He worked formerly at London Business School in the area of Operations Management, completing his doctorate there in 1992, and serving as Associate Dean of the Sloan Programme from 1995.

Professor Westbrook’s management research interests are wide-ranging and include supply chain management; operational flexibility and mass customisation in manufacturing; and quality and productivity in service operations. He is also the joint author of a history of opera, and is currently developing a research interest in deploying the study of the humanities in leadership development.

As Deputy Dean, Roy Westbrook currently leads the school’s “1+1 MBA” initiative, in which students can precede the MBA with one of Oxford’s many specialist Masters courses, to create a two year education combining subject depth with managerial breadth. He also steers the “Engaging with the Humanities” initiative, which seeks to bring insights from Oxford’s humanities departments to leadership studies at the business school.

Professor Westbrook’s research interests are wide-ranging and include supply chain management; operational flexibility and mass customisation in manufacturing; and quality and productivity in service operations.
