 Jaypal Jain

Overview

Jaypal Jain is a Lecturer in Management (Accounting) at Saïd Business School. He teaches Financial Reporting, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting.

He was previously Assistant Professor (Accounting and Finance) at Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of Management, University of Mumbai, India. He has a Master’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Mumbai and is a student of the prestigious IGNOU, India for his MBA (Finance). He has also taught Accounting and Business Research in London and Muscat.

Research interests

Jaypal Jain is actively involved into the social and political aspects of accounting. His research interests primarily focus on the theme ‘accounting for people’. Unless regulators and government look into the finer side of accounting as a social tool, that directly governs the economic development and sustainability of nations, accounting cannot fulfil the welfare requirements of a democratic set up. His studies draw on social, historical and political perspectives using empirical examples from India, China, Brazil, and Japan.  The case of India is significant as it involves the history since the pre-civilized period to show that accounting existed for people.

Research projects

- The history of Indian accounting and the unexplored issues of IFRSs- implications for India (with Tomo Suzuki)
-
Performance excellence in manufacturing organizations: a study of the relationship between strategic priorities and management techniques adopted by Indian companies.
- Effective taxation and the corporate-social perspectives.
