Organisational Behaviour (OB) is broadly concerned with the study of work organisations and those who are employed in them.
The area is often split into micro- and macro-OB. Micro-OB focuses on individuals and groups or teams; macro-OB is concerned with how organizations or large parts of them like divisions or business units work and interact with other organizations and their environment. Much micro-organisational analysis is based on the discipline of psychology while macro-organisational studies are derived more from sociology, politics and economics.
Within the OB group we have scholars who research employment relations and human resource management, the nature and functioning of social networks and particular types of organization, such as health and professional services. In strategic terms, macro-organizational behaviour is concerned with problems of strategic implementation, innovation and renewal, effective coordination in complex organizations and globalization.
At the micro-level, OB is focused on issues like job satisfaction, loyalty and commitment, motivation and incentives and effective team-working.
