Alan Morrison, Programme Director

Professor of Finance, Saïd Business School,
University of Oxford

Professor Alan Morrison is a leading expert on corporate finance, corporate governance and regulation. He is the author of numerous publications, including a book on the future of investment banks. Alan teaches on the school’s prestigious MBA, Executive MBA and Diploma in Financial Strategy programmes and is a past director of Oxford's M.Sc. in Financial Economics.

He is a regular consultant to corporations, public bodies and governments and was recently specialist advisor to the House of Lords Treasury Select Committee. Alan has led executive programmes for clients in Oxford and around the world.

Professor Morrison regularly receives excellent feedback for his dynamic and engaging presentation style which explains technical concepts in a clear and fun manner. His depth of knowledge encourages interaction through lively discussion and debate.

Roger Barker
Head of Corporate Governance, Institute of Directors

Following initial training as an economist, Roger spent 13 years in senior investment banking roles, including spells as equity strategist and chief operating officer of research at UBS, and head of investment banking marketing at Bank Vontobel.

In 2004 he moved to Oxford University to complete a doctorate on corporate governance and was Stipendiary Lecturer at Merton College. He was also an adviser on corporate governance to the EU Economic and Social Committee in Brussels.

Roger joined the IoD in July 2008, and is a member of the policy committee of the European Confederation of Directors’ Associations. His latest book - Corporate Governance, Competition, and Political Parties: Explaining Corporate Governance Change in Europe - was published by Oxford University Press in January 2010. Neil Garrod
Director of Treasury, Vodafone Group plc

Neil is responsible for three teams within Vodafone’s Group Treasury which acts as the centralised treasury for the global operating subsidiaries. He has been heavily involved with the Group’s M&A activity and in establishing the valuation framework and policy.

Prior to joining Vodafone, his career included spells at ABB London, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and Nomura. He has an MSc in Finance.

Neil will present a case study on the strategic assessment, valuation and funding process for a major international acquisition.

 

Robert Clews
Deputy General Manager,  Head of Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals,
SMBC Europe Limited

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) is one of Japan’s largest international banks. Robert has been at SMBC since 2001 after qualifying as Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in 1993. 
 
Robert is involved in the financing of multi-billion dollar projects covering the whole oil, gas and petrochemicals value chain. Major projects have included the financing of an integrated offshore oil and gas project in Russia, several refineries and petrochemical plants in the Middle East and oil field development projects in West Africa. His experience includes project investment appraisal, project finance advisory, and joint venture and commercial contract negotiations.

Richard Hoyle
Principal, Greenhill & Co. Inc

Greenhill & Co., Inc. is a leading independent investment bank focused on providing financial advice on significant mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, financings and capital raisings to corporations, partnerships, institutions and governments.

Richard joined Greenhill in 2000. Previously he worked in the European M&A group of CSFB in London after time with the Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Barclays de Zoete Wedd. Richard graduated from Pembroke College, Oxford with a First Class honours degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

Richard will lead a discussion providing insight on the factors companies consider when deciding whether and when to go ahead with M&A transactions, the parties involved and how the process works.

 

Jack Edmondson
Investment Director, Oxford University Endowment Management Ltd

Jack Edmondson works across geographies and asset classes making investments for the long-term growth of the University’s capital.
 
He started his investment career at Merrill Lynch as an equities analyst and assistant portfolio manager, before moving to McKinsey & Co as an Associate in their Corporate Finance and Strategy Practice. He then  completed a number of leveraged buy-out transactions and was involved in portfolio company management at Exponent, a mid-market UK private equity firm.

Jack is a CFA charterholder, has an MBA with Distinction from the Saïd Business School at Oxford where he won the JP Morgan prize for Finance, and has a first class degree in history from Durham University where he was a University Scholar. He is also a member of the Advisory Board for The Private Equity Institute at the Saïd Business School.
