Jimmy is Managing Director of Global Environmental Affairs for the new United Airlines, following the merger with Continental Airlines.
Jimmy leads the company’s efforts in developing solutions that reduce the company’s impact on the environment ranging from global policy positions, carbon management strategies and alternative fuels to consumer facing initiatives and environmental reputation and branding. Jimmy is also responsible for regulatory environmental compliance across the system.
Just prior to the merger, Jimmy led United’s corporate responsibility strategy and sustainability efforts, as well as overall long-term corporate reputation strategy. His work has resulted in strategically enhancing the company’s impact and strengthening its reputation as a responsible, global company. As corporate liaison to the Public Responsibility Committee of the Board of Directors, he managed Board review of the company’s responsibility programs and policies including issues such as consumer affairs, environmental responsibility, responsible sourcing, safety, and community strategies and investments.
Prior to joining United Airlines, Jimmy was a strategy and management consultant that focused on the intersection of collaboration between the public and private sectors. Most recently, he was with Booz Allen Hamilton – a global strategy consulting firm headquartered in Washington, DC. As a leader in the Organization and Strategy practice, he developed a business that delivered strategy and organization transformation services to senior executives in health, defense, and intelligence including strategic plans, lifecycle human capital management, and global supply chain transformation across public and private sectors.
Prior to Booz Allen, Jimmy worked for SRA International where he consulted senior executives in both the public and private sectors, addressing critical national issues including Y2K, illegal drug demand reduction, and issues of national security associated with critical infrastructure protection. He worked with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and the National Security Council, as well as global multinational oil companies.
Jimmy first launched his career with political positions during the administration of President William Jefferson Clinton at The White House in the Executive Office of the President, and as an appointee with the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor. He also worked in the Executive Office of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley focusing on economic revitalization initiatives.
Jimmy received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Chicago, a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University with a focus on foreign policy, and his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Oxford University in the U.K. While at Oxford, Jimmy was also a member of Pembroke College.
He is a member of The Chicago Club and actively supports nonprofits such as the Youth Orchestra of the Americas in Washington, DC and Beyond Sport based in London, UK, serves on the Advisory Boards of the University of Chicago’s Sustainability academic program, and is a member of Conservation International’s Business and Biodiversity Council as well as the Sustainable Travel Leadership Network.
