 Partners and families

A number of MBA students bring their families to Oxford each year and the School is delighted to welcome spouses or partners and children. The School strives to create a warm and welcoming environment from the moment they arrive.

Approximately, a third of each year’s class is married and a proportion of these students bring their families to Oxford.  The Saïd Business School organises several activities throughout the year to make yours and your family stay in Oxford as enjoyable as possible.  Examples of these events include a family welcome reception at the beginning of the academic year where MBA partners get to know each other, a tea party with entertainment for children and a Christmas children party in December.

The Saïd Business School partners and spouses website includes relevant information to help you and your family plan your move to Oxford. Please go the Saïd Business School partners and spouses website for further information >

Oxford University’s Newcomers Club

As well as the events organised by the School, the Oxford University’s Newcomers Club offers wives, husbands and partners of graduate students help settling in and gives them the opportunity to meet people in Oxford.

Each term the Newcomers' Club arranges a programme of events including visits to places of interest inside Oxford, for instance to the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library or to the Oxford colleges. It also usually organises a coach trip to interesting places near Oxford. Many of these trips give the Newcomer a chance to visit places not normally open to visitors.

At Oxford University's Newcomers Club there are various special interest groups that you can join.  For example, a conversation group; for those who wish to improve their conversational English skills, a newcomers with children group;  where children enjoy playing together while their parents have a coffee and a chat, or a book club; to discus particular books, to name but a few.

Moving your family to Oxford

Moving a family from home, often from another country, is a demanding task and one that requires considerable planning.  The Saïd Business School is committed to make this as straight-forward as possible. The admissions office will provide as much help and information as they can and advise on important matters including:

  • Housing
  • Doctors
  • Hospitals
  • Health insurance
  • Nurseries and schools

"When I started applying to business schools, my wife was 6 months pregnant and although I knew the intensity of a one year MBA program would be rough, I always knew we could do it.  We are now halfway through the programme and as I look back to reflect, I can say this is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made" - Rick Lockton, MBA student, 2009-2010
