DPhil community

Doctoral students at Oxford University's Saïd Business School come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. They all share an intellectual curiosity and a desire to complete a challenging piece of research.

Research seminars

As well as the events organised by the Saïd Business School, as a DPhil student you will have access to research seminars organised by individual research centres within the School.

Working at the interface of disciplines, faculty and researchers explore issues such as the politics of global business, the rise of science entrepreneurship and the management of innovation, and the social and commercial impact of information systems and the Internet.

Recent research seminars have included:‘The business of business is sustainable value creation' by Mr Anant G Nadkarni, Vice President - Group Corporate Sustainability, Tata Council for Community Initiatives; Using the Web to do Social Science’ by Prof Duncan Watts, Principal Research Scientist, Yahoo!
Research and 'Public and Private Equity Investor in Frontier Markets'  by Miles Morland, founding member and Chairman of DPI; or 'Corporate Reputation and the 1911 Stock Market' with speakers, Prof Leslie Hannah, LSE, and Prof James Foreman-Peck, University of Cardiff.

Winter Doctoral Conference

Designed to showcase the research of the School's doctoral students, the Winter Doctoral Conference aims to facilitate the exchange of research ideas between students and faculty. Doctoral students enrolled at the School present their work, defend their ideas and receive feedback from peers and academic colleagues.

Social activities organised by the School

There are plenty of events organised by the School for research students over the year, including a Research Degrees Dinner, weekly Happy Hour at the Saïd Business School Common Room bar and end of term drinks.

Student-led activities

Every year DPhil students are provided with a social budget to be spent on social events for the DPhil Community. Some of the student led activities include: DPhil afternoon coffee or DPhil monitor; a termly publication created by DPhil representatives with the intention to be informative and entertaining.
