The purpose of the interview is to give candidates an opportunity to demonstrate their potential as students on the Economics and Management course. We are keen to admit students who have the interest and capacity to study and who are likely to enjoy this demanding degree programme.
In some ways, the interview will be like a tutorial – you will be asked questions about a subject with which you are familiar. This may be something you have been studying at school or college, or a topic which you have mentioned in your personal statement as being of particular interest. If there is a story in the news that is relevant to Economics and Management, you may be invited to comment on that.
A good way to prepare for your interview is to read widely and discuss what you have read with your teachers and school colleagues. Ask your teachers to recommend some books, share them with your friends and discuss them together. Organise a newspaper reading group that meets at lunchtime or after school to read up a particular topic in the papers, compare the analyses the papers offer, and apply the methods you have been studying at school. Learn to develop ideas and express them confidently. Learn to listen carefully to what your teachers, friends and family think about ideas in economics and management, and use these to develop your own thoughts, ideas and arguments. This will be good practice for your interview.
