Back To TopIs Economics & Management at Oxford the equivalent of Business Studies, Accounting or Marketing degrees at other universities?
No, Oxford's E&M degree is an academic programme of study, that emphasises academic skills such as critical thinking, assembling and understanding complex arguments, and writing essays that present the student's conclusions. This is not a vocational qualification.

Back To TopHow is it different?
Although students may study accounting, finance and marketing, they are likely to consider these topics within the context of an evolving global business environment. They will be expected to read widely from books and academic journals, and to critique current thinking and practice, rather than being trained in standard techniques.

Back To TopWhat do graduates do?
Graduates from the E&M programme earn the highest average salaries of any undergraduate degree programme in Oxford. Many take up careers in the financial sector, or become management consultants, and some proceed to higher degrees.

    Back To TopWhat is Management?
At Oxford, Management is the study of the theories and models that explain and predict the behaviour of organisations and individuals within the commercial or business environment. Many authors and practitioners have suggested explanations for the challenges and difficulties that businesses face in a national or global context, and this course will help students understand, compare and test those ideas in a way that will equip them to achieve a deep understanding of the world of economics and management.

Back To TopWould you recommend I study an essay writing subject at A-level?
The Oxford tutorial system requires students to read extensively and to write an extended essay for each tutorial. You will find it very helpful to develop your skills in structuring ideas and arguments. Essay-writing would be very helpful, but you would also benefit from practice in discussing, debating and defending your ideas.
