The research involved three service design consultancies working over six days spread over five months with three science and technology-based enterprises (one consultancy with each enterprise). The photos and sketches in this section reveal some of the ways the service designers approach the practice of designing services. The consultancies and the enterprises were free to use the time in the ways that made sense to them. In the time available, it was not possible to go through the whole design process the consultancy usually would follow. But the designers said they did use approaches and methods they typically would on a client project. For all three enterprises, their engagement with their design consultancy pair was stimulating and challenging, helping them think of their service as something that should be designed.
The companies involved were:
IDEO (consultancy) and Prosonix (science enterprise - particle engineering)
Radarstation (consultancy) and Oxford Gene Technology (science enterprise - mico-arrays for research)
live|work (consultancy) and g-Nostics (science enterprise - personalised medicine).
