The 10,000 women initiative

10,000 Women is a five-year investment by Goldman Sachs to provide 10,000 underserved women around the world with a business and management education.

10,000 Women operates through a network of more than 70 academic and non-profit partners to develop locally relevant coursework for students and to improve the quality and capacity of business education. As one of the partners, the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford collaborates with two Chinese universities on this exciting initiative.

The 10,000 Women Entrepreneurship Certificate Program was launched in Hangzhou, Eastern China, on 24 June 2009. Each year for five years, 100 underserved female entrepreneurs with high potential are provided with business and management education in Zhejiang University. We worked closely with the Global Entrepreneurship Research Centre of Zhejiang University on student recruitment, curriculum design, case studies development, teaching, mentoring and wrap-around services.

The Program consisted of five modules, and each module runs for four days each month over a period of five months, enabling participants to study whilst continuing to run their own businesses. Around 300 scholars have successfully graduated and achieved progress in their ventures. The fourth year programme will commence in June 2012.

In 2011 we launched a new programme – Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Oxford-SWUFE Entrepreneurship Program with the School of Business Administration of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu. Scheduled to run for three years, it provides tremendous benefit for female entrepreneurs who come from Western China and ethnic minority groups.

Both programmes are recruiting the new cohort of scholars for 2012. If you would like to refer a candidate, please download the application forms (Chinese) on this website and contact our local recruitment coordinators detailed in the forms:
