The new discussion document
2 March 2010, Royal Society of Chemistry, London
On January 26, HM Treasury and HMRC published a Discussion Document setting out “principles and proposals for modernising the CFC rules”. This document extends the government’s thinking on the taxation of foreign profits, following the important reforms in 2009 which introduced dividend exemption and the worldwide debt cap. The CFC regime is a vital element in the UK’s tax treatment of multinational business. Chris Sanger, of Ernst and Young, says “It is an incredibly important document”.
The government intends to consult on these proposals before developing more detailed proposals and draft legislation. This conference is an opportunity to hear views from the government, business and academia on the new proposals, and to take part in a wide-ranging discussion on them.
Speakers include:
• John Connors, Director of Tax Strategy and Policy, and member of the Intellectual Property Working Group
• Michael Devereux, Director of the Centre for Business Taxation, and a member of the Business-Government Forum on Tax and Globalisation
• Julian Heslop, CFO GlaxoSmithKline, Chairman of the Hundred Group Fiscal Committee and member of the Business-Government Forum on Tax and Globalisation
• John Sherman, Leader, Corporate Tax Team, HM Treasury
• Tim Voak, Tax Director, Tesco, and member of the Monetary Assets and Treasury Functions Working Group
