 Tamsin Jones

Skoll Scholar 2010/2011

Tamsin is a dynamic, passionate professional who has delivered social innovation on three continents and in the public, private and community sectors.  Her resume includes over a decade of senior work in social policy and programmes with a focus on cross disciplinary collaboration.

Prior to attending business school, Tamsin oversaw strategy and expansion for a non-governmental organisation called mothers2mothers in Zambia.  She led the delivery of a model of care that empowers, educates and employs women living with HIV to help reduce transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to child.  By embracing private sector principles and expertise, mothers2mothers has rapidly expanded its programming and now reaches twenty percent of pregnant women and mothers living with HIV/AIDS globally.

This is the latest in a string of projects Tamsin has embarked on driven by her interest in devising new approaches to intractable social challenges.  In 2006 she moved to the UK to assist Baroness Greenfield CBE to develop the concept for a new London based international charity called Science for Humanity.  This experience convinced Tamsin of the benefits of tapping expertise that falls outside of the traditional social sector to develop new ways of thinking with the potential to create transformational change.  To further pursue such collaborations, Tamsin joined East London Business Alliance where she helped establish a new ten-borough, sustainable supply chain partnership that won business for thousands of small- to medium-sized enterprises in support of urban regeneration in disadvantaged areas of east London and the Thames Gateway.

Tamsin has also been an adviser to the Premier of South Australia, the Hon Mike Rann MP, where she provided policy and communications expertise on various issues over four year period. The South Australian Government is renowned as a world leader in many areas of Social Inclusion.

“I am thrilled to have this opportunity.  I believe that an Oxford MBA will provide world class commercial training that, coupled with learning from the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, will help me to bring about innovative ways of approaching global concerns and driving high quality social initiatives.”
