Nigel Tunnacliffe

Skoll Scholar 2010/2011

Nigel Tunnacliffe is a serial social entrepreneur, having founded six startups over ten years in industries ranging from software to social housing to renewable energy. His latest venture mDiagnostica, launched with three other Oxford students, is poised to revolutionize rural healthcare in India. By connecting rural health workers to doctors and specialists, mDiagnostica’s platform allows minimally trained healthcare professionals to provide diagnoses and treatments to rural patients.

In addition to founding innovative companies, Nigel headed one of western Canada’s largest non-profit sailing schools where through a variety of initiatives he increased annual student registrations five-fold. He also chaired The Vancouver Biodiesel Coop, the largest bioenergy cooperative in Canada, which provides retail distribution of 100% recycled biodiesel. After raising $70k from friends and family for brain cancer research, Nigel was contracted by the British Columbia Cancer Foundation to expand their fundraising efforts, and helped to put on the largest fundraising event in BC history which raised more than $9.4 million for research into cancer treatments and care.

Nigel received a Bachelors of Communication and a Certificate in Sustainable Community Development from Simon Fraser University, and an MBA from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford where he studied as a Skoll Scholar.
