This Have you heard of the "Unreasonable Institute"? Great, neame, we agree! The name comes from the same George Bernard Shaw quote as the name of one of Pamela Hartigan's books, "The Power of Unreasonable People": "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." Verity Noble of Unreasonable willbe joining us for a discussion about their institute, the Unreasonable brand, and will be available to answer any Unreasonable questions you might have!

 

2020 Education Initiative: Project Presentations by Students

Nicholas Mellor (2020 Education) will be coming to Oxford with student participants of the 2020 Education Initiative to share with us how the school-based initiative empowers young people aged 11-18 to articulate the challenges and opportunities of the world and to provide their practical solutions, using film and social media. Student Projects include fair trade coffee, rare orchid propagation, beekeeping and raising awareness of children's rights. Student participants will be looking for mentors to help expand their local and overseas projects, come meet them, and you can sign up to be a mentor if you like!

 

MakeSense Event

MakeSense will be coming to the business school as part of a series of events designed to provide students with creative brainstorming and idea generation techniques while supporting a local Oxford-based organization. A MakeSense facilitator will join us that day to teach all of the participants tools designed to help the group quickly create a range of ideas and solutions for a specific problem the organization has identified. Come join us, enjoy some snacks and wine, learn new brainstorming techniques, and help an Oxford organization expand their impact.

The green committee of the social impact network is organising an event, Business to the Environment (B2E),  to connect students and fellows at Oxford University interested in creating start-ups and other ventures. B2E will provide an opportunity to pitch business ideas and participate in workshops, with the aim of encouraging collaboration across schools and facilitating a multi-disciplinary exchange. Join us for a workshop framed around identifying the key driving factors you are looking for in a high-impact career, determining which lifestyle design might work for your needs, and putting some actionable items on paper towards short term goals. We will do many self-reflection activities aimed at creating concrete steps towards reaching your future goals while also working in small groups, and the hope is that many of you might want to continue to use this groups as a sounding board in the future. Lunch and two coffee/snack breaks included.

Our first business partner is Ethex. Come join for a VERY interactive 1.5-2 hour session facilitated by MakeSense and help Ethex come up with new ideas to reach their goals.
