Overview

Bill Forrester worked at Wheyway Watson, BP Rockwool, and the Kuwait Insulation Manufacturing Company before joining Sheffield Insulations (now SIG plc) as Marketing Director in 1981. As CEO, he floated SIG on the main market of the London Stock Exchange in 1989 with an initial market capitalisation of £24 million. Bill retired as Chief Executive of SIG on 31st December 2001. SIG now has a market capitalisation in excess of £1.5 billion.
He was Executive Chairman of John Laing plc between 2002 and 2006 when the business was sold.
He also holds Directorships in Dignity Plc and Nuaire, and has several other business interests.
Bill studied engineering at Strathclyde University. He is married to Heather and they have two children and 5 grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, fishing and is a keen supporter of the Scotland rugby team. In July 2006 Bill received a Doctorate of Engineering from Sheffield University.
